Kathmandu: The candidacy registration program for the direct election of members of the House of Representatives, scheduled for Falgun 21, is being held across the country today.

Election Offices Set Up in All Constituencies
The Election Commission has stated that all necessary preparations have been completed, with election offices established in all 165 constituencies nationwide to facilitate the nomination process.

Call for Peaceful and Dignified Registration
The Commission has urged political parties and candidates to reach the election offices peacefully and maintain dignity during the nomination process. To reduce crowding and ensure smooth registration, specific time slots have been fixed for major political parties and candidates.

Direct and Proportional Representation
Earlier, the Commission had published the final list of candidates under the proportional electoral system. In the 275-member House of Representatives, 165 members will be elected through the direct system, while 110 will be selected through proportional representation.

Parties Finalizing Candidates
Most political parties have already finalized their candidates, while some are completing the process today. The Nepali Congress has said candidate selection is still ongoing in a few constituencies, whereas the CPN-UML has claimed it has selected candidates in all constituencies. UML, the Nepal Communist Party, the National Independent Party and others have already distributed official nomination letters.

Required Documents for Nomination
Candidates must be present at the election office with a copy of their citizenship certificate or voter ID card. Proof that their names are included in the final voter list of a municipality or rural municipality is also mandatory, along with other required documents as specified by the Commission.

Election Preparations in Full Swing
The interim government formed after the agitation on Bhadra 23 and 24 has arranged the required resources for the election. The process of selecting election police has already begun to ensure security.

The Election Commission has expressed confidence that the nomination program will be conducted enthusiastically and smoothly across the country, paving the way for fresh elections after the House of Representatives elected in 2079 BS was dissolved following last year’s agitation.
